The dial adds a technical element. An inner ring features 120 micro-teeth, with two markings for each second. This creates a precise, mechanical rhythm across the surface. Red accents on the hands provide a clear point of contrast, a recognisable detail within Giugiaro Design’s visual language. The watch maintains a slim profile, measuring 40mm in diameter and 7mm in thickness. The crown is positioned at 4 o’clock to improve ergonomics while contributing to the overall balance of the case. A Milanese mesh bracelet completes it.
A collaboration between two Italian design houses.
D1 Milano and Giugiaro Design are brought together by a shared approach to form, where structure, precision and control define the outcome. Giugiaro Design’s legacy in automotive and industrial design has long been shaped by speed, engineering and visual clarity. Here, that thinking is applied to watchmaking.
THE COLLABORATION
In automotive design, form is never arbitrary. Shapes and surfaces are used to control light, define movement and guide how an object is seen. Those principles are applied here, and translated into a watch that adopts the same underlying logic. Structure comes first. Every element is carefully considered.
The case defines the design. Its asymmetrical form is built through irregular polished facets set against brushed surfaces. These surfaces shift as light moves across them, creating a piece that feels dynamic without complexity.
THE WATCH
THE FINISHING TOUCHES
The design is kept largely monochromatic, allowing the focus to remain on form. A restrained palette works alongside the contrast of polished and brushed finishes.
The caseback is engraved with the Giugiaro Design logo, marking the collaboration and anchoring it within a wider design lineage. The packaging, developed by Italdesign, houses the project.
